During two Yellow Stripe Tests on November 15, 14 individuals graduated the beginners program and earned their Yellow Striped Belts. The following were promoted:

Proud Dad Skips State Championships to Escort His Senior Maid

Samantha was named to the FHS Homecoming Court and was escorted down mid field by her proud Papa. It was the first Louisiana State Championships that Sensei had ever missed. His first tournament ever was as a white belt at the 1980 Louisiana State Championships. As stated by Danny Gilliland "I know you hated to miss State, but if there was ever a great excuse, you had two (Brittany and Samantha) ".

October Promotions

14 individuals were invited to participate in the October 25 belt test. The two and a half hour belt exam included Forms, Sparring, Basics, Board Breaking, and Sparring against as many as 6 attackers (Sophie) for the brown belt candidates. The following were promoted:

Master's Club Overnighter Held Oct 19, 20

An challenging and intense (but fun) weekend was held for the Masters Club Members (black belts and select brown belts) at the dojo and at Pelican Athletic Club. 19 individuals participated in the event where they started off as judges for the dojo competition followed by a Pizza Party. After the competitors left, a pre-midnight workout was held which included timed push-ups (sensei won with 74 in one minute), timed sit-ups (Travis won with 49) followed by an hour of sweeps, throws and takedowns. A few hours or rest was had until 5:30am. The morning one mile run was timed with Ryan King and Brandon winning at 8:02 and 8:03 but all students finishing within 12 minutes. The students then traveled in the team van to PAC to train with strength and conditioning coach Chad Englehart of the Hester HS2 Program. Chad is a master of getting pro and collegiate athletes in shape and has helped sensei muscle up and drop his body fat percentage to 9.8%. The grueling hour and a half workout included many speed and explosive drills to increase a karate speed, reaction time, and balance.
